ONPA Welcomes Mr. Edwin Barnuevo

Mr. Edwin Barnuevo joined the ONPA on July 21, 2008. Mr. Barnuevo has been recruited to become one of three ONPA audit supervisors stationed at the main office in Palikir, Pohnpei. ONPA welcomes Mr. Barnuevo to his new tenure.

Originally from the Philippines, Mr. Barnuevo is a U.S. CPA, a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountant (AICPA) and the Philippines Institute of Certified Public Accountant (PICPA). He is also a member of the Institute of Management Accountant (IMA). Mr. Barnuevo has been working in the FSM for the last six years.

Mr. Barnuevo has a rich working experience as a controller, an auditor and a college professor while working with different public and private agencies with in the FSM and abroad. Prior to joining the ONPA, Mr. Barnuevo worked with the Yap State Public Service Corporation for nearly two years as Controller and at the same time a part-time accounting instructor at COM-FSM, Yap Campus. He also worked with COM-FSM National Campus, in Pohnpei as Assistant Professor for the College’s Division of Business. Before moving to the FSM, Mr. Barnuevo had spent over two years working as an associate professor at the University of Baguio, College of Commerce in the Philippines. As an auditor, he spent three years at Punongbayan & Araullo, a member firm of Ernst & Young International in Makati City, Philippines.

According to Mr. Barnuevo, accepting the offer is a ‘higher step in a new territory’ in his career. He said that even with his experience as an auditor and controller, the job is still very challenging especially when dealing with professionals at ONPA. His main objective is to try to improve the way things are in the national government and to assist the auditors to meet the standard as required in the yellow book.
