Press Release

Audit Supervisor Omar E. Njie returned Home to The Gambia , West Africa , after his 2-year contract with the FSM National Public Auditor's Office Public Auditor

The staffs of the FSM Office of the National Public Auditor (ONPA) bid their fond farewell and express their deep appreciation to Mr. Omar E. Njie , Audit Supervisor for 2 years, who recently returned home to The Gambia, West Africa , after the end of his employment contract in August 2006. Omar was a respectable colleague, a mentor, and a friend to everyone in the Office.

He took up his position at the ONPA on July 21, 2004 for a 2-year contract. As an audit supervisor, he supervised many audit engagements, worked closely with the staff in ensuring the audits were done professionally and in accordance with applicable standards, and assisted in the finalization of audit reports. Capacity building for the local staff through on-the-job training and the transferring of skills through daily interaction with the resident staff was something close to Omar's heart during his tenure at the ONPA in Palikir, Pohnpei.

The Management and staff enjoyed a great deal their working relationship with Omar, who came to the FSM after spending over 13 years in the US mainland where he attained his bachelors of science degree in business administration with emphasis in accounting and a master's degree in business administration from Berea College and the University of Louisiana , respectively. While in the US mainland, Omar also attained the professional designation as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and served in senior positions doing auditing, accounting, financial and budgeting responsibilities before moving to FSM.

Contract renewal was in the process in order to extend Omar's contract with the Office when a contact came in from his former employer in the US offering an excellent job in Banjul , The Gambia, which is Omar's home country. The job offer was good and topping it off was the fact that the new job opportunity is to be located in The Gambia. In as much as Omar and his lovely family wanted to extend their contract to stay for additional years in the FSM, the new job offer was a dream come true which made it rather difficult for Omar to refuse. “I leave the Office with the utmost respect for the Public Auditor, Mr. Haser H. Hainrick, and the staff, but I could not pass up the opportunity especially being in my home country,” stated Omar.

“We learned a lot from Omar. We really enjoyed working with him as our audit supervisor. We all got along with him greatly and benefited handsomely from his wisdom and knowledge,” commented the staffs of the Office.

“I feel very excited whenever I hear from the staff or anyone in the FSM. You have no idea how fondly I speak of the FSM and my colleagues,” commented Omar in a recent email.
