Capacity Building for the Insular Areas
On February 4, 2005, Mr. Michael Henry, Auditor I, left Pohnpei to participate in a sixty-day on-the-job audit training program at the U.S. Office of the Inspector General (OIG) Field Office in Denver, Colorado.
Mr. Henry’s training is part of a joint-training program initiated in 2002 between the Insular Areas Public Auditor Offices, U.S. Department of Interior (DOI), OIG, and DOI Office of Insular Affairs (OIA) to provide the Public Auditor Offices with capacity building through training and technical assistance programs. Staff members from Insular Area governments are sent to selected OIG field locations to attend sixty to ninety-day period “hands on training” fully funded by DOI.
While at the OIG Field Office in Denver, Mr. Henry will work alongside OIG personnel on the preliminary planning phase of an audit. Upon his return to Pohnpei, Mr. Henry will share the knowledge gained at the OIG with other FSM ONPA personnel.
Ms. Limanman Elanzo, Auditor I, participated in a similar two month training last year August 2004 in Albuquerque New Mexico.
