ONPA Hires New Audit Supervisor

The Office of the National Public Auditor announces that it has recently hired Mr. Ronald Sufficool to fill the vacant Audit Supervisor position. The position was vacant after the departure of Donald Yamada in August 2008. Ron signed a 2-year contract with the ONPA that began on March 27, 2009. ONPA Staff members are happy to welcome Ron to his new post at Palikir.

Ron was recruited from Los Angeles, California where he was employed as the Internal Audit Manager for the Guitar Center Company. Previously, Ron had held Senior Audit positions with Aecom Technology and RD Shell Oil. He is experienced in not only financial auditing, but also operational review, compliance, investigation, IT Audit and Control, and Sarbanes-Oxley Internal Control Framework testing. He has impressive industry experience in electronics, merchandise retailing, oil & gas, manufacturing, distribution, and retail having more than 15 years experience in the Fortune 500 Companies.

Ron attended Loma Linda University in California, USA where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. He went on to graduate school at California State University. He holds a number of professional designations which include: Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information System Auditor (CISA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), and Certified Management Accountant (CMA).

Just a few days after his arrival, Ron said that he is very happy to work at the office. With the professional team environment he has encountered, Ron looks forward to contributing to the organization in its accomplishment of the audit mission. He plans to be a positive influence in support of the ONPA mission and contribute to the efforts of the entire FSM National Government.

Among others, Ron said that his main objective is to help staff audit professionals further develop the use of modern audit tools and techniques, performing to high standards with skill-sets learned on the job through coaching, leadership and personal example. He added that citizens of free countries are holding their governments to higher and higher standards ultimately requiring the best use of funds. He believes that the internal audit function is a great resource to help government operate more effectively and efficiently.

Ron acknowledged the warm welcome from the staff members and has enjoyed discovering the friendliness of the island, which he noted has been extensive, continuous and consistent.

Ron arrived on Pohnpei with his wife Tania on March 25, 2009. ONPA again welcomes both Ron and Tania to the island of Pohnpei.
